As value added processes are increasingly shifted to suppliers, the challenge facing companies is to integrate all participants including suppliers and development partners in end-to-end or networked value chains. The manufacturing industry is confronted with the task of synchronizing the product development process across all levels and supporting systematic maturity management to boost efficiency along the value chain.
This task is generally made more difficult by

• parallel, complex, and highly dynamic processes
• the integration of globally distributed partners, even "non-industrial" partners
